Richard Gomez

Inducted in 1997

Very simply put, Mr. Gomez has been completely amazing Tucson music lovers and musicians since 1961. Yes, you read the date right. Richard played his first pro job in 1961. His style could easily be called sparse soul-jazz with some New Orleans funk. Richard darts in and out like some kind of R&B wasp with his stinger ready. His solos are always outrageous; frequently insane. To name only a few, the bands Gomez has played with would have to include The Natives, The Persuaders, The Five of Us, The Poppies, Whatever's Left, and Tommy Walker and the Boogieman Blues Band. As far as we can tell, Richard honestly loves all kinds of music. It shows in his playing too.

Arizona mourns the recent death of Richard Gomez.
